LiFePO4 batteries perform significantly better in the cold than lead-acid batteries. However, all batteries experience reduced performance in freezing temps. Our batteries feature built-in Low-Temperature Charge Protection. If the battery temperature drops below freezing (32°F / 0°C), the BMS will automatically disable charging​ to prevent damage. The bike will still start, but for best results, store your bike in a garage if possible.

Safety is a core advantage of LiFePO4 chemistry. It is inherently more stable and much safer than other lithium-ion types. Additionally, each battery has a built-in Battery Management System (BMS)​ that protects against over-charging, over-discharging, short circuits, and over-current.

It is highly recommended.​ While your bike's charging system will work, for optimal performance and longevity, use a smart battery charger that has a dedicated "LiFePO4" or "Lithium Iron Phosphate" mode. Standard lead-acid battery chargers may not charge it correctly or fully.

LiFePO4 batteries have a very low self-discharge rate. For long-term storage (like over the winter), we recommend: Remove the battery and give it a full charge with a LiFePO4-compatible charger every 2-3 months.
